‘Our Green Queens Award’

In honor of Earth Day, Councilmember James Gennaro (center) presented four advocates of environmental conservation with the first-ever “Our Green Queens Award.” Gennaro, who serves as the Council’s Environmental Chair, gave the awards to (left to right) Queens Farm Museum Executive Director Amy Fischetti, Queens Botanical Garden Executive Director Susan Lacerte, Queens Borough Parks Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski, and Allan Ludman, Director of Globe NY Metro on Monday, April 23 at a ceremony at Meadow Lake.
“These four awardees have gone above and beyond in their work towards environmental consciousness,” Gennaro said.
Lewandowski has been the Queens Parks Commissioner for the past three years and supervises 7,200 acres of parkland in the borough. Lacerte has led the Botanical Garden for the past 13 years, and Fischetti has been with the Farm Museum for 20 years.
In his position with Globe NY Metro, Ludman, a geologist and professor of earth sciences at Queens College, organizes hands-on programs with schools throughout the City, allowing students to learn more about the environment by testing local water, air, and soil samples. On Earth Day - Sunday, April 22 - the program celebrated its 13th anniversary.
