New York City Parks and Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe rides a wave Friday, July 27 at Rockaway Beach to mark the opening of the city's second surfing beach. Also on hand were State Assemblymember Audrey Pheffer, Community Board 14 District Manager Jonathan Gaska, Queens Borough Parks Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski, and several local surfers. As one of only two surfing-only beaches in the city, the beach is sure to attract hoards of people throughout the summer.
