Swami wows ‘em

Nearly 100 people packed the Jackson Heights Jewish Center recently to hear spiritual leader Sant Rajinder Ji Maharaj preach his message of love, peace and unity.
Several attendants stood by the door to the Center for nearly 30 minutes on Thursday, August 2, awaiting Maharaj’s arrival. One follower, Patricia Herrera, a reporter from Latin Week New York, gushed that she hadn’t seen the swami in a decade but could remember vividly the last time she saw him speak.
Since 1989, Maharaj, a spiritual leader from India and the head of Science of Spirituality/Sawan Kirpal Ruhani Mission, has devoted himself to lecturing on the power of souls and ways to relieve human suffering. Maharaj preaches that human unity will bring about global peace.
“More than 99.9 percent of all genes in human beings are exactly the same,” Maharaj told the western Queens crowd. “What was different was less than .1 percent.”
Referring to a famous saying by Mother Teresa, Maharaj told the story of a reporter asking her why global injustice does not make her angry.
Mother Teresa purportedly replied, “I don’t want to waste my energy in anger if I can use my energy in love.”
Maharaj visited Jackson Heights as part of a global tour, and local politicians, Assemblymember Jose Peralta, who hosted the event, and Councilmember Helen Sears, were both on hand to welcome him.
