State Senator John Sabini’s Albany Court date set for Thursday, October 4 has been postponed with no rescheduled date, but the Queens senator is expected to face charges for driving while intoxicated after Albany police arrested him early Thursday morning, September 27.
Police reportedly pulled Sabini over around 1 a.m. for failing to signal while making a right turn, and cops said he failed multiple sobriety tests.
“I carried on a full and undisrupted schedule today, participating in a public hearing in Albany,” Sabini said in a prepared statement the day following his arrest. “I regret any distraction this may cause the State Legislature and I fully intend to continue working hard on behalf of my constituents.”
Sabini allegedly refused to take a breathalyzer test when police pulled him over, and his license was revoked, according to reports.
“I look forward to the resolution of this matter but cannot comment any further, as it is an ongoing legal matter whose outcome is to be determined by the courts,” Sabini’s statement continued.
Sabini, who was first elected to the Senate in 2002, represents parts of Jackson Heights, Corona, East Elmhurst, Elmhurst and Woodside. In 2006, he won a hotly contested primary race with City Councilmember Hiram Monserrate and was reelected to a second term.
Sabini currently serves as the ranking minority member on the racing, gaming and wagering and transportation committees. He also sits on the consumer protection, education, elections, environmental conservation and rules committees.
