The American Heart Association’s (AHA) Go Red for Women campaign will educate the Queens community further about having a healthy heart during a luncheon on Tuesday, June 24 at the Water’s Edge.
The honoree at the luncheon will be Dr. Neeta Shah, the Vice President of Women’s Health Services for the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System. Shah and New York Mets Director of Community Outreach Jill Knee will be the committee chairs for the event. Mets Manager Willie Randolph’s wife, Gretchen, will be the honorary chair. CW11 News at 10 weekend sports anchor Lolita Lopez will emcee the event.
The luncheon will feature an educational panel discussion and networking. The honorees and heart disease survivors will speak.
The keynote address will be given by Dr. Jennifer Mieres, the Director of Nuclear Cardiology for the NYU School of Medicine, and Teri Ann Parnell, RN, the Director of Marketing and Education for North Shore University Hospital. They are the authors of “Heart Smart for Black Women and Latinas.”
“Our goal is to educate women about heart disease and risk factors with an emphasis on the role our family history plays in heart disease,” Shah said. “Our hope is that guests will feel empowered with the skills to prevent heart disease by making lifestyle changes and advocating for oneself.”
The Water’s Edge is located at 401 44th Drive in Long Island City.
