The 6-1 Judges find themselves near the top of the division after sophomore hurler Amanda Annicaro captured five of her first six decisions. Junior Jaclyn Liebowitz is third in Queens I A in runs batted in with 14, closely followed by teammates Anna Laboccetta (12), a sophomore, and junior Angela Saint (11). It has been a steady progression for Cardozo since finishing last in 2004. They placed third a season ago before losing in the first round to Murry Bergtraum and are on pace for an even better campaign this year.
Springfield Gardens is undefeated in six league games and sits atop Queens I B. They have senior Brigette Knight to thank. The power-hitting shortstop is hitting .645 with six homeruns, 37 runs batted in, three more than she compiled all of last spring, and 20 hits in just 31 at bats. In Queens II B, Forest Hills has ripped off victories in their first seven games. Freshman third baseman Veronica Mammina, who is batting .800 with 24 hits and 17 stolen bases, has been behind it all.
