North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) and the LIJ Medical Center will host a Cancer Survivor’s Day on Saturday, June 7 with actress, writer and cancer survivor Julia Sweeney as the keynote speaker.
Sweeney, a former cast member of Saturday Night Live (SNL), is a survivor of a rare form of cervical cancer, which she was diagnosed with shortly after leaving SNL and moving back to Los Angeles. Her experiences became the basis for her one-woman show, “God Said Ha!,” which was made into a film in 1998.
The second annual Cancer Survivor’s Day will be held at the Monter Cancer Center, which is located at 450 Lakeville Road in Lake Success. The center is part of the Center for Advanced Medicine, which is under the North Shore-LIJ Health System.
NSUH and the LIJ Medical Center are expecting to have more than 2,000 cancer survivors and their family members present for the event.
NSUH and LIJ cancer patients who are interested in attending their Cancer Survivor’s Day event should call 516-734-8947.
