Helping those in need

For nearly 78 years, Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York has been providing foster boarding home services, residential care and preventive services for children and families in crisis and residential and non-residential programs for developmentally-disabled adults in need. Offering a multitude of high-quality services allows Little Flower to help over 2,000 people annually throughout New York City and Long Island.
Every day there are children in desperate need of safe, nurturing foster and adoptive families, so in addition to on-site programs for children, Little Flower responds to that need by offering several foster care programs as well as adoption services. As part of a multifaceted foster care program, Little Flower offers specialized services to provide youngsters with specific needs individualized care. The Therapeutic Foster Care program provides special and intensive services for children who are experiencing a range of emotional or behavioral problems, and the Mother/Baby Foster Care Program places young mothers and their children together in a stable environment that provides guidance towards independence and self-reliance. All programs strive to return children to their birth families whenever possible but when reunification is not appropriate they seek to find a permanent foster and/or adoptive home.
Little Flower also provides residential care to developmentally-disabled adults in several Intermediate Care Facilities (ICF) and Individualized Residential Alternative (IRA) locations in Queens, Brooklyn and Long Island providing lifetime care on a 24/7 basis. Additionally, Little Flower’s New Life Program offers family care homes to disabled adults bringing the experience of family life and individual attention to adults with special needs so they can learn to contribute and share in daily life while gaining skills for independent living.
Little Flower’s financial resources stem mainly from New York City and State. However, as a public/private partnership, they rely on individuals, foundations and corporations for the funding that allows them to continue to provide special programs and services that promote healing and emotional support. Ninety cents of every dollar donated directly benefits programs and services provided by the agency.
