Migdal Chapter Of Hadassah Celebrates Israel’s 60th Anniversary

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of Israel, North Shore Towers’ Migdal Chapter of Hadassah held a special luncheon on Thursday, June 12 during which time they spoke about the role the organization has played in the country.
“As we celebrate Israel at 60, we recognize the struggles that Israel has endured,” Rabbi Michael Klayman said during the invocation. “But while healing is an ongoing fact of life, Israel has been able to live that healthy life and Hadassah has played a major role in healing the Jewish people and in helping to secure and sustain…Israel.”
During the luncheon, which was held in Towers on the Green and included entertainment by Ricky Pen, chapter president Carolyn Dinofsky presented communications vice president Lilly Cohen a plaque in recognition of being selected as the Nassau Region of Hadassah Woman of the Year Award.
The featured speaker was Rita Gottlieb, who is a past president of the Nassau region of Hadassah and the Metropolitan chair of Keepers of the Gate. She spoke of the many accomplishments that have happened in the State of Israel, including building institutions of hiring learning and its contributions to the medical field.
“Hadassah women all have one heart and one mind. We want to make this world a better place. We want to make tomorrow better,” Gottlieb said. “Hadassah has always been a vital and integral part in Israel’s history and growth. We have helped to make Israel a world power.”
Gottlieb said that they are not waiting for the future but instead are building it, saying that being a member of Hadassah is making an invest in Jewish life. She also spoke about the youth programs that Hadassah, which has been around for 97 years, has.
“Hadassah’s mission is to perpetuate Israel and to preserve the Jewish people,” she said. “We are the face of humanity all over this world and we show our support for Israel with love and also with action.”
Although Migdal has been around for a while, it had lost momentum as members began aging out. However, Nassau Region area vice president Joan Newman undertook the task of getting it running again and found residents of the Towers to take on the board positions.
“I found some wonderful women,” Newman said during the luncheon. “We got together and I found there was a camaraderie there, there was a love of Israel there and there was a need that they decided to fill.”
