Entrepreneurship workshops at LaGuardia

LaGuardia Community College’s Small Business Development Center, in collaboration with Consortium for Workers Education and Mi Kitchen es su Kitchen, is conducting an entrepreneurship workshop series this fall for those interested in starting their own business. The program runs from September 16 through November 18.
The seminars, which provide aspiring small business owners with the information they need to successfully launch a business, will be held at the Artisan Baking Center at 36-46 37th Street, Long Island City. The 10 two- and three-hour workshops include:
Getting Started: The Road to Entrepreneurship - Tuesday, September
16; 6 - 8 p.m. The session gives an overview of the series and discusses the various steps that must be taken to become an entrepreneur.
Marketing for Continual Growth - Tuesday, September 23; 6 - 8 p.m.
The session covers how to develop product, price, promotion and placement strategies; how to identify one’s market segment; and how to reach one’s potential customers through effective marketing and advertising.
Developing Your Product: Price and Presentation - Thursday, October 2; 6 - 8 p.m. The session looks at how to effectively price and package a product.
Critical Decisions: Legal Structures & Tax Issues for Small Businesses - Tuesday, October 7, 6 - 8 p.m. Legal experts will explain the various legal structures and how to decide which one is the best.
Risk Management Basics: Insurance & Product Liability - Tuesday, October 14, 6 - 8 p.m. Discussion will focus on various insurance policies and their price ranges.
From Home to Commercial Space: Tuesday, October 21; 6 - 9 p.m.
The session gives a step-by-step outline on how to make a successful transition from the home to a commercial space. The last hour will feature a tour of the kitchen facilities at the Artisan Baking Center and a discussion of the role of equipment in production.
Human Resources: Hiring & Managing Employees, Tuesday, October 28; 6 - 8 p.m. How to manage employees and maximize productivity, efficiency and loyalty is the focus of this workshop.
Get Organized. Get Money: Thursday, November 6, 6 - 8 p.m. The session delves into financial statements as well as how lenders make decisions and where a small business owner can access capital throughout the various stages of growth.
Making it Real: Writing the Business Plan - Thursday, November 13, 6 - 8 p.m.
The workshop looks at how to prepare a business plan that not only can chart success but also open doors to lenders, investors and other associates.
Building Your Network: Meet Key Business Professionals, Graduation Ceremony & Trade Show - Tuesday, November 18, 6 - 9 p.m. During this session there will be a variety of experts available to answer questions on a one-on-one basis. Students will have the opportunity to showcase their products in a mini-trade show to fellow students and guests.
