Police Commissioner cites ‘brave’ cop

In last week’s Courier Sun, you read how off-duty police officer Patrick Plunkett put a bank robbery suspect, Robert Jablonowski, 36, in a headlock (above) before uniformed officers completed the arrest inside the HSBC Bank located at 65-63 Grand Avenue on October 9. Plunkett suffered facial injuries, including a fractured nose, and one of his teeth was knocked out. He was brought to St. John’s Hospital. An imitation pistol and note were recovered at the scene. Jablonowski, who reportedly had a prior arrest, faces federal charges for attempted robbery.
For his heroism, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly recognized Plunkett, saying, “Police Officer Plunkett is one tough cop, and a very brave one. [On behalf] of the entire Department, I want to thank him and present him with this certificate of recognition.”
