The Alley Pond Environmental Center (APEC) held their Annual “Green Gala” at Douglaston Manor International recently, honoring Borough President Helen Marshall, and representatives of Citi Real Estate Services and the city’s Office of Long Term Planning and Sustainability.
Marshall received her award from Queens Parks Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski, for her ongoing financial and public support for APEC and the city’s Parks.
U.S. Representative Gary Ackerman did double-duty. He filled in for State Senator Frank Padavan to present APEC’s Friend of the Environment Award to Rohit Aggarwala, director of the city office responsible for implementing Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s green “PlaNYC.”
Ackerman then presented the “Green Living Award” to Thomas Santiago, Managing Director of the banking conglomerate’s real estate arm, for the Gold-rated building recently completed on Court Square in Long Island City.
Marshall then gave Borough recognition to her fellow honorees, who also received certificates from State Assemblymember Mark Weprin. City Councilmember David Weprin delivered a Proclamation to complete the festivities.
The more-than-100 guests enjoyed their dinner, the brief speeches and musical entertainment provided by Kenny Hendricks and friends.
