Santa lights up Flushing

As a warm-up before making his appearance at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Santa appeared at the Macy’s on Roosevelt Avenue near Main Street recently, to officially kick off the holiday season in downtown Flushing.
Santa presided at the lighting of the festive street displays over the shopping district on Monday, November 24. The lights, sponsored by the downtown Flushing Business Improvement District (BID), will burn bright, keeping the holiday spirit going until the celebration of Chinese New Year in February.
After brightening up the scene, Santa, his elves and helpers (from left) Melva Miller of Borough President Helen Marshall’s Office; Mabel Law of the Flushing BID; James Eng (rear); Senator Toby Ann Stavisky; Barry Grodenchik and John Choe adjourned to a Con Edison-sponsored party at the nearby Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel, where they brightened the lives of local kids, with toys and goodies.
