Two skilled-nursing facilities from the North Shore-LIJ Health System have been ranked in the top 12 percent of long-term care facilities nationwide by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS).
Over the course of three years, a total of 15,800 nursing homes throughout the country were analyzed by CMS. All of the facilities which participated in Medicare or Medicaid were given “a star rating from a low of one to a high of five stars based on health inspection surveys, staffing information and quality of care measures.”
Five stars were given to the health system’s Stern Family Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation and the Orzac CECR.
“We are proud to be ranked among an elite group of nursing homes in the country, demonstrating the quality of care we provide to our patients,” said Maureen McClusky, who is the executive director of both facilities. “Choosing a nursing home for a loved one can be a difficult and confusing decision for families. The new government data gives consumers another tool to make informed decisions about their healthcare.”
Located in Manhasset at North Shore University Hospital, the Stern Family Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation was established in 1989 and has 256 beds. Its specialties are short-term rehabilitation, skilled nursing and extended care services.
Orzac CECR, which has 129 beds, was also founded in 1989. It is located in Valley Stream at Franklin Hospital and is a long-term care facility.
