Queens College earns mention on ‘best value’ list

The Princeton Review has named Queens College to its 2009 list of the 50 “Best Value” public colleges and universities throughout the nation.
Selections were made based on the academics, cost to attend and financial aid of the schools. As part of the process, both administrators and students were surveyed.
“It’s very gratifying to receive external confirmation of what we in the Queens College community have long known: there is no better education available than what we offer right here in Flushing,” the school’s president, James Muyskens, said. “In this economic downturn, more families are discovering us as the smart choice - a college that combines excellent academics with superb value.”
The “Best Value” ranks were printed in the January 8 issue of USA TODAY.
“With the best reputation of all the CUNY undergraduate institutions, Queens College provides a top-rate education at a bargain-basement price, especially if you can score the incredibly low rate for in-state tuition,” USA TODAY’s web site states. It continues, “Overall, Queens College is an excellent and affordable education.”
Along with selecting the 50 best value public schools, 50 best value private schools were also chosen. There were also more than 650 public and private schools and universities where individuals were surveyed.
“We have always believed finding the ‘best fit’ college should be the foremost goal for student applicants and their families,” said Princeton Review VP-Publisher Robert Franek. “But the economic crisis and financial downturn have presented sobering challenges both to families struggling to afford college and to higher education institutions struggling to maintain their programs in the face of budget and funding shortfalls. We are pleased to partner with USA TODAY to present these schools for all they are doing to provide outstanding academics at a relatively low cost of attendance and/or generous financial aid.”
