Retired schoolteacher, Elsie Miller, dead at 75

Elsie Miller, a long-time schoolteacher, passed away late last month. She was 75 years old.
Miller, who lived on 84th Street in Ozone Park, was known throughout the neighborhood for painting her home different colors, the latest of which was blue.
“She was a very intelligent woman, very nice,” said neighbor Grace D’Agostino. “She was like a fixture in the neighborhood.”
Miller was a parishioner at Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
“She came to mass almost every week,” said Eric Ulrich, City Council candidate and Nativity parishioner. “She’s been around the neighborhood for a really long time. She was a very popular person - everyone knew her. I’m sure she’ll be surely missed.”
The medical examiner lists Miller’s cause of death as cardiovascular disease.
On a Facebook blog, many expressed sadness at her passing.
“I can’t believe she died,” wrote one. “The neighborhood will not be the same without her.”
Another posted his memories of Miller’s ever-changing home.
“I use to hang out on 86th Street and 107th Avenue when I was a teenager,” he wrote. “[I] Remember this house. I remember the house being painted metallic silver.”
“Aww, she will be missed,” wrote another. “Funny, I was just showing my son the house a few weeks ago and telling him about it.”
Arrangements have not been made public.
