Noguchi named ‘Culture Spot for March’

The Noguchi Museum has been designated the “Culture Spot for March” by NYC & Company and will offer two-for-one admission specials in celebration of it.

“The Noguchi Museum provides visitors a unique and tranquil refuge,” said NYC & Company Foundation Executive Vice President Barbara Lorber. “NYC & Company is pleased to offer this wonderful window into the world and art of Isamu Noguchi as we name the museum the Culture Spot for March.”

Located in Long Island City, The Noguchi Museum “was founded and designed by internationally renowned sculptor Isamu Noguchi to display his life’s work.” It features his sculptures and design work. There are works that have been created using stone, metal, wood and clay.

Throughout the month of March, the museum will have several series and exhibitions. “Second Sundays” is a public program that includes art dialogues, musical performances and poetry readings.

There are also free gallery talks in English and Japanese.

One of the current exhibitions on view is “What is Sculpture? Akari from the 1986 Venice Biennale.” Also, “The Full Figure and Portraiture 1926-1941” will be on display through March 15. Through March 25, the exhibition “From Plaster to Stone” will be on display.

At 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, the museum will have a curators’ talk.

“The Noguchi Museum, one of New York City’s cultural gems, welcomes New Yorkers to come and experience the full range of the acclaimed artist’s work in both sculpture and design,” said museum director Jenny Dixon. “Visitors can relax in our splendid sculpture garden, an oasis of peace in the city; take in a special exhibition; or participate in one of our many public programs, ranging from panel discussions to concerts to hands-on workshops for children and families. We look forward to sharing this cultural experience with New Yorkers young and old.”

In honor of being named the “Culture Spot for March,” the museum will be offering two-for-one admission. Visitors much have a special coupon when purchasing their tickets to take advantage of the offer.

The special coupons can be obtained by visiting the official NYC information centers in Midtown Manhattan, the Times Square Alliance and Federal Hall; official NYC information kiosks at City Hall and in Chinatown; or online at www.nycgo.com/culturespot.
