Spiritual master H.H. Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj will be in New York at the beginning of May and will speak in Flushing on Sunday, May 3.
Maharaj is the head of Science of Spirituality. He has traveled internationally and is the author of the books Inner and Outer Peace through Meditation and Empowering Your Soul through Meditation.
“When I was very small I had a great inkling to spiritual development,” said Maharaj, who formerly worked as an electronics engineer.
During the upcoming visit to New York, Maharaj said that Science of Spirituality will be sharing a message that people need to sit in silence and meditate.
“It’s in sitting in silence that the revelations of the divine happen,” he said.
Maharaj said that there are several steps that can be taken to maximize the meditation experience.
First of all, he said, a person should find a quiet place where they can sit and meditate, whether it be in their house or in a park. Maharaj said that the quiet enables a person to concentrate better.
Also, Maharaj said that it can be good to meditate at the same time every day, so that it becomes a habit and the person does not need to be reminded to do so.
While meditating, a person can pick any pose to sit in. Maharaj said that the important thing is to pick a way to sit where the person will not be moving or shaking, since the body needs to be still during meditation.
When the person meditating has closed their eyes, Maharaj said that they are bombarded with thoughts. It is important for all of these thoughts to be silenced.
Maharaj said that there are many benefits to meditating, the foremost of which is to experience God.
Other benefits include improving communication and interpersonal skills. Maharaj said worker efficiency increases and student skills also get better. It can also help in dealing with stress-related problems.
In addition, he said that meditation creates a state of peace and calm that can help with medical problems that are related to stress.
On Sunday, May 3, Maharaj will appear at the Community Center (Hindu Temple Auditorium) from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. The center is located at 143-09 Holly Avenue in Flushing.
The subject of the event will be “Meditate and Find Joy in Troubled Times.” Maharaj will speak on the subject and there will also be a meditation sitting. There will also be a question and answer period and an opportunity for one-on-one meetings.
There is no charge for the event and it is open to the public. Although it is not required, Maharaj said that it is better to pre-register.
