The international organization known as the Lions Club has a youth auxiliary, called LEO. It stands for Leadership, Experience and Opportunity.
Recently, the Little Neck-Douglaston Lions helped organize a Leo Club at St. Anastasia School in Douglaston.
On Wednesday, April 22, they received their charter from the Lions, and their officers and members got to take their respective oaths and sign as charter members in front of dozens of proud siblings, parents and community members, including many Lions.
In recognition, they also received a flag, which had flown over the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., from Congressmember Gary Ackerman.
The goal of the organization is to provide the youth of the world with “the opportunity for development and contribution, individually and collectively, as responsible members of the local, national and international community.”
These youngsters have already raised money to support a local volunteer ambulance corps and other worthy causes.
