Glendale Kiwanis meets

The Glendale Kiwanis celebrated Cinco de Mayo at their most recent meeting, on Thursday, May 7.
Focused on helping the children of the community, one of the Kiwanis’ causes is the Greater Ridgewood Youth Council (GRYC), which will hold its capital fund-raising kickoff extravaganza at Shiro of Japan at The Shops at Atlas Park on Tuesday, May 19.
“The whole mall [Atlas Park] cares,” said Joe Faccibene of Shiro. “They want to be a part of the community.”
Then, he added, “You [the Kiwanis Club] have a lot to be proud of.”
Other items of business addressed at the meeting included “Everyday Heroes,” also at Shrio, on May 28 at 7 p.m. The event, which will draw politicians like City Councilmember Elizabeth Crowley and Senator Joseph Addabbo, is set to honor those people in the community who give back.
On May 31 there will be a street fair on Metropolitan Avenue.
Then, on June 12, Christ the King will host its “Coney Island Night.” Kiwanis President Joseph Aiello said that support and prizes are still needed.
The Glendale Kiwanis, which sponsors a K Kids Club and two Key Clubs – at Grover Cleveland High School and Christ the King, as well as a Circle K Club at Queens College – meets every Thursday at 1 p.m. at Zum Stammtisch. For more information or to become a member, call 718-497-2402.
