Your editorial concerning state Assemblywoman Ann-Margaret Carrozza (D-Bayside) (“Time for Carrozza to Say Goodbye,” Little Neck Ledger, July 23) is correct in that she has failed the integrity and legislative aspects of her position.
You are, however, wrong when you give her a pass on community service. She has failed there as well. She has not attended a Community Board 11 meeting that I can recall, even though her district overlaps with it. From 2007-09, when I was board chairman, she was not helpful on any issues and did not bother to return calls.
On the other hand, U.S. Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-Bayside), state Sen. Frank Padavan (R-Bellerose) and City Councilmen Tony Avella (D-Bayside) and David Weprin (D-Hollis) were always available to attend meetings and, more importantly, be there on matters of importance.
Even legislators whose districts barely overlapped with the community board — i.e., Assemblymen Rory Lancman (D-Fresh Meadows) and Weprin (D-Little Neck), U.S. Rep. Anthony Wiener (D-Forest Hills) and Councilman John Liu (D-Flushing) — were more involved and helpful.
We have a number of quality candidates running for the Council. The public will have a hard time making a choice. Only one will win. Some of them live within Carrozza’s district. Hopefully, those who lose will run for the Assembly to give us an alternative in case Carrozza chooses to run again.
