LIC YMCA gets $5,000 grant

Youngsters at the Long Island City YMCA will benefit from a recent $5,000 grant the group received from the New York Life Foundation’s Competitive Grants Program.

New York Life doles out 40 grants of $5,000 annually to the most compelling children-related projects submitted by eligible New York Life employees, agents or retirees and this grant will benefit the Leaders Club at the YMCA through the Strong Kids Campaign.

The club provides teens with opportunities for leadership training, personal growth, community service and social development.

“I am proud to be actively involved with the Long Island City YMCA,” said Mark H. Mantell, a volunteer from New York Life’s Home Office in Westchester, who has been a volunteer with the Long Island City YMCA for 10 years. “This organization is making a difference in our community and I am pleased to support its mission.”

The YMCA Strong Kids Campaign seeks donations from individuals, corporations and foundations to be able to continue to provide access to YMCA programming to children, teens and families who would otherwise be unable to pay.

Long Island City YMCA members and community volunteers hope to raise more than this year’s goal of $125,000 to provide membership assistance and scholarships to programs like summer camp, child care and teen activities to thousands of people in the surrounding area.
