Age: 64
Party Affliation: Democrat
Area Serving: District 25

Why did you decide to run for city council?
Kalathara decided to run because he wanted to improve the quality of life within the community. He specifically mentioned areas including preventing crimes and improving education as two areas he wants to focus on.
What are two major issues affecting your community?
"Crime, because I don’t feel safe walking at night," said Kalathara. Another thing that Kalathara wants to improve is educating those people who are not qualified to find jobs. The community of Jackson Heights, Kalathara explains, is a "business improvement district," and he says a lot of changes can be made to help out those who have businesses in the community.
What’s the first thing you would focus on if elected?
Kalathara said that everything that he has vowed to do as a candidate, he will fulfill "without spending too much money." Kalathara believes that there are areas in the community that can be improved without spending too much money. The economy is the key to helping out the community’s business owners improve their businesses and even expand.
