Day camp holding open house

A day camp experience like no other is much closer than you think.

Boasting 1,250 acres in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Community Day Camp provides a unique and enriching summer program that is close to home, yet miles away from city life.

Camp administrators are inviting you to learn more about this exciting summer opportunity at their open house at AMF Bowling Centers, located at 69-10 34th Avenue in Woodside, on Sunday, March 28.

For children ages four to 15, Community Day Camp transforms those lazy summer days into activity-filled adventures. They provide a fun and educational environment where the list of available sports runs from swimming and karate to baseball and basketball plus everything in-between, even academics.

Their sports programs are specifically designed to be age-appropriate, noncompetitive and interest driven. Campers can choose any athletic activity where they will learn, practice and play with coaches, counselors and peers with similar interests.

All of their activities are developed and implemented by professional teachers and coaches with an emphasis on good sportsmanship and peer encouragement. With this method, your child will learn how to play sports with a healthy competitive edge.

For a quarter of the price of other day camps, children who attend Community Day Camp receive the full complement of services, including a premier aquatics program. Their staff meets and exceeds the strictest standards and holds a close affiliation with the American Red Cross, and have all completed their CPR and AED courses. Also, the Flushing Meadows Aquatic Center is an enclosed, heated facility that allows your child to swim daily, even on days with inclement weather.

There are three counselors for every 10 children, and all of them are licensed, certified teachers whose goal is to give all kids a chance to attend and enjoy camp. And in addition to numerous Red Cross certified counselors, there is a licensed practical nurse on site daily. They also provide peace of mind by picking your child up from your home at 8:30 a.m. and dropping them back off at 4:45 p.m.

Community Day Camp offers nine weeks of camping fun for $2,390, with the ninth week completely on them. Lunch is also included in the price, as well as t-shirts, backpacks, insurance and field trips. Plus, if you sign up two kids for the day camp, they will take 50 percent off the price of the second child.
