For special occasions, El Coyote Restaurant in Jackson Heights should be at the top of your list.
Located at 80-28 Northern Boulevard, El Coyote offers a variety of dishes to satisfy any customer. From a churrasco – Argentinean style grilled meat – to paella, to salmon. But what really makes El Coyote unique is its close attention to detail when preparing and presenting their creations.
This is the second restaurant for couple Paola, and her husband Carlos Axilote, the chef. Their first is located in Monroe, Connecticut.
Chef Carlos, who has over 20 years of experience in the kitchen, has a refined taste in Mexican cuisine. So much so that the main courses are served in separate plates from the side dishes for the customer to enjoy and taste each, one by one.
For this reason, especially in Mexican restaurants where each one has its own version of sauce and guacamole, in El Coyote they pay close attention in preparation and plating their offerings, both of which are extremely important to pleasing the customer.
At El Coyote, the house red sauce with its complicated ingredients has a smooth and lively taste that does not overpower the taste buds. Likewise, the guacamole is prepared fresh at your table – to your liking – with delicious Hass avocados.
The appetizers, like the sombreros rellenos are an amusing creation of the chef, who gives the tostones – fried green plantains – a hat-shape and fills them with chicken or beef. They come with a light sauce with garlic, annatto, olive oil, salt and pepper.
According to Paola, the manager of El Coyote, although the restaurant offers many traditional Mexican dishes, their goal is to please diverse palates at a time. For this reason, they have an extensive menu, which includes shrimp, enchiladas and chicken with garlic.
As a main dish, be sure to try the grilled sirloin steak with cracked black peppercorns, served in a cabernet sauce. This dish certainly confirms the unparalleled experience and culinary talent of the chef.
Axilote allows the tastes of pepper and wine to deeply penetrate the tender meat, so that with every mouthful, you feel an explosion of complex and mature flavors. I shared this dish with someone, but I would have easily eaten by myself. Bravo, very delicious!
El Coyote is open seven days a week, has space for events, and does catering and deliveries. They also have lunch and breakfast specials on Sundays. For after work, they have specials in their bar, which also has televisions for those who want to watch sports games.
“The restaurant is very elegant and it frightens people,” because they expect it to be expensive, said Paola over the white linen tables, mustard tones and purple walls with paintings of Mexican landscapes. “Nevertheless, the prices are good.”
