Sulfite warning on nut mix

If you bought a tub of “Nut Tree Health Mix” recently, check the label.

The New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets has warned that packages of the product with the code DATE: SEP 28 10 in black ink on the product label have high levels of sulfites.

People who have severe sensitivity to sulfites may run the risk of serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume this product – 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics.

Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites.

The product was distributed in the metropolitan New York area by Green Land, of 212-03 48th Avenue in Oakland Gardens, which is voluntarily recalling the 8-ounce, square plastic tubs. It is a product of the United States, Turkey and the Philippines.

The presence of the chemicals was discovered during routine inspection and subsequent analysis by the New York State Food Laboratory.

According to authorities, no illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this product.

Consumers who have purchased “Nut Tree Health Mix” should return the product to its place of purchase, authorities say.
