The Meeting
Many of you are familiar with the weekly column Victoria’s Secrets written by Victoria Schneps-Yunis, Queens Courier publisher and my mother. She has brought you into her life with stories of family, friends and travels. Countless people tell me they read and enjoy the column.
Reaching one of life’s milestones by getting engaged, I have decided to bring you a column on my experiences, from meeting my fiancée, to the engagement, up to the "big day."
It’s been a fun ride so far and I hope you enjoy the stories and experiences I will share.
Now for my stories . . .
I definitely enjoyed the single life living in Manhattan. I am blessed with a huge group of close knit friends, many from high school and others from college at Indiana University.
On October 6, 2007, one of my best friends invited me to his girlfriend’s birthday dinner, assuring me that many single women would be there. Sure enough there were about three girls to every guy. We went to a little Italian restaurant named Supper, on the Lower East Side. It’s a great spot, but their basement dining room was crammed.
My roommate Justin and I, good friends from college, never dreamed we would become connected in many other ways. By coincidence, my sister’s husband ended up being Justin’s brother-in-law’s best friend from childhood. Their families are extremely close. This has led to us all being close.
Justin’s brother-in-law Larry and his wife Micole were at the dinner. We were chatting and ended up being the last three people to the table. His wife had to crawl under the table to get an open seat on the opposite side, leaving one seat open next to her and one across from her. I tried my best to get Larry to sit next to his wife, but he insisted on sitting across from her and convinced me to crawl under to sit next to Micole. Doesn’t seem like a big deal, except for the fact that I ended up sitting just one seat away from my future wife.
Sometimes connections are made instantly and other times they take a while to materialize. Tracey and I hit it off immediately. Believe it or not, even though I was somewhat joking (and shots of Patron were involved), I did tell her that night I was going to marry her.
From that evening until New Year’s 2008, Tracey and I were inseparable.
Until next time . . .
