Bowl-a-Thon for autism awareness

The student government from Scholars’ Academy in Rockaway came with their family, friends and classmates in tow to help spread Autism Awareness on Sunday, April 18. In an event they helped to plan, promote and execute, these hard-working and dedicated students made New York Families for Autistic Children’s (NYFAC) 1st Annual Bowl-a-Thon for autism a huge success.

The Scholars’ Academy Seawolves, under the leadership of John Coscia, took to the lanes at Cozy Bowl in Ozone Park to help NYFAC spread awareness and raise some funds to support programs for the developmentally disabled.

Assemblymember Mike Miller bowled as well, with Greg Costigliola of Ozone Park individually raising more than $400.

“The students from Scholars’ Academy . . . helped make this first annual event a huge success; Mike Miller has been a tremendous supporter of NYFAC since the day he took office. His love for our children is an inspiration to all of us; and of course I want to thank the owners of Cozy Bowl who made all of our hard work look so easy,” said Andrew Baumann, president and CEO of NYFAC.
