Men arrested at JFK wanted jihad: Police

JAMAICA — Two New Jersey men were arrested Saturday at John F. Kennedy International Airport for allegedly conspiring to join a terrorist organization in order to kill Americans, police said.

Mohamed Mahmood Alessa, 20, of North Bergen, N.J., and Carlos Eduardo Almonte, 24, of Elmwood Park, N.J., were taken into custody at JFK Saturday, where they intended to take separate flights to Egypt on their way to Somalia to join Al Shabaab, a foreign terrorist organization, “and wage violent jihad,” police said.
