SE Qns. homes will not receive water pumps

Regarding the article about York College that appeared in the May 27-June 2 edition of TimesLedger Newspapers, a reference was made about plans to install pumps in a number of homes in the vicinity of South Road.

The engineering firm Tectonic, which was retained by the state Dormitory Authority to devise a permanent solution to de-water York College’s Academic Core Building, has collected and analyzed a significant amount of data about the local ground water.

As part of the still ongoing study, the engineers have recommended monitoring wells be installed on the property of a few homeowners, outside the dwellings south of the campus, to collect additional data about the current level of the water table to the immediate south of the campus.

The information would be used to develop a comprehensive model of the existing water table and help the engineers assess what impact, if any, the project may have on the surrounding neighborhood.

The option to install pumps in a number of homes is not under consideration and will not be the case.
