Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani officially endorsed Frank Padavan in his re-election bid for State Senator at Padavan’s campaign office on Bell Boulevard in Bayside on Thursday, October 28. According to Giuliani, there is no one better for the job.
“He takes care of New York City. He always has,” said Giuliani. “We need him to get the State Senate in Republican hands and protect against the overspending and high taxes.”
Padavan’s campaign office – a former Chase bank branch – was filled with campaign workers and supporters. Fellow Republicans Councilmember Dan Halloran and Assembly candidate for District 26 Vincent Tabone were also in attendance. Giuliani – who is often credited with being tough on crime and cleaning up the city’s streets – remembered how Padavan was instrumental in getting things done.
“Frank was probably the single most effective leader we had on any of the criminal justice reforms that we needed. . . he is well-respected on both sides of the aisle,” said Giuliani.
Beyond the Padavan race, the former mayor is confident that both the State Senate and the U.S. House of Representative will have Republican majorities.
“I think the Republicans are going to win the State Senate and I think we are going to take the House of Representatives. The question is – by how much? I think there is a tremendous reaction against out of control government whether it’s in Albany or in Washington,” said Giuliani. “We are taxing business out of existence. The economy has been mishandled horribly by Pelosi and Obama. I think you are going to see people in enormous number come out and vote against them and put a stop to it.”
Senator Padavan is running against former two-term Councilmember Tony Avella. Polls open at 6 a.m. on Election Day, November 2.
