UPDATE: Man killed by train at Auburndale LIRR station

An adult male was struck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train around 5:30 a.m. on Friday morning, November 19, at the Auburndale Station. The incident is under investigation.
Train service was suspended on the Port Washington branch of the LIRR between 5:35 and 7:15 a.m., according to an MTA spokesperson. After 7:15, the LIRR began running limited train service to New York Penn Station and shortly after 9 a.m., full service had been restored.
Meanwhile, waiting passengers at the LIRR station around 10 a.m., definitely knew something out of the ordinary went on in the area earlier in the day.
“I live in Bayside so I heard the helicopters this morning,” said Peter Cito. “I turned on the news and it turns out there was an accident, something going on at the Long Island Railroad. Someone was killed.”
Erika Cerino, who was travelling to Penn Station, said commuters needed to be more cautious.
“I mean, I know it sounds cheesy but we need to watch the gap,” Cerino said. “I think everybody really huddles in and looks for when the train is coming. You lose your balance, and we’re not all gymnasts. It’s an unfortunate thing and I think we just need to take better precautions.”
