Better bins coming to Ozone Park

City Councilmember Eric Ulrich recently unveiled a new garbage pail that will help reduce illegal dumping and keep neighborhood streets cleaner.
Ulrich, along with Sanitation Commissioner John J. Doherty, unveiled one of the 35 new receptacles to be placed along 101st Avenue on Tuesday, December 7.
“We are doing everything we can to keep Ozone Park clean,” said Ulrich.
These new receptacles, with their narrow opening on top, will help prevent businesses and households from dumping their private trash in public pails – which is illegal and carries a $100 fine — and preclude people from sifting through the garbage.
“This will help improve the quality of life for residents,” said Ulrich, because the illegal dumping in the old pails often caused them to overflow.
“When you walk down the street, you want to see a clean street,” said Doherty.
The pails will be placed from 76th Street to 111th Street along 101st Avenue. Since Liberty Avenue and Cross Bay Boulevard already received new pails, there was more illegal dumping occurring along this strip, said Ulrich. This is why he allocated over $18,000 in this year’s fiscal budget for the new receptacles.
“The Councilmember is really taking the lead and has been a big help in getting this done,” said Doherty.
