Speeding driver stops to punch man: Brown

COLLEGE POINT — A College Point man was charged with assault after he allegedly punched a man in the face on a College Point street, a spokeswoman for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.

Justin Dimech, 28, of 714 College Place in College Point, allegedly got into a confrontation with the victim around 11:55 p.m. Dec. 17, according to the criminal complaint.

A car Dimech was riding in allegedly sped down the intersection of College Point Boulevard and 20th Avenue when a man walking down the street had to jump out of the way of the car, the complaint said.

Dimech allegedly got out of the car and punched the victim in the face, causing the victim to sustain a broken left orbital socket and a laceration to his cheek, the complaint said.

An eyewitness who said he was driving the car Dimech was riding in said someone spat on his passenger rear window and screamed, “What, what” when Dimech got out of the car, the complaint said.

Dimech was arraigned Jan. 7 on an assault charge before Queens Criminal Court Judge Stephanie Melendez, who released Dimech on his own recognizance, the spokeswoman said.

Dimech is expected to return to court Jan. 26, the spokeswoman said.
