Vallone honors sanitation worker killed on job

Councilmember Peter F. Vallone, Jr. honored sanitation worker Frank Justich by renaming 35th Street and Ditmars Boulevard in Astoria as “Frank Justich Way.” Justich worked for 11 years before he was killed on the job by an accident. The renaming ceremony was held on June 12, with appearances from the Department of Sanitation Commissioner John Doherty and Assemblymember Aravella Simotas. Many members of the community who knew Justich paid their respects to his wife Stacy, mother Patricia and his two young daughters by attending the ceremony.

“Frank touched so many here in Astoria, whether it was through his friendly smile or familiar presence in the morning. We hope this humble honor will further his legacy and keep him in the hearts and minds of those he served in our community,” said Vallone.
