Become one of New York’s Bravest

New York’s Bravest wants you – all of you.
If your dream job is becoming a firefighter with the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) you must register to take the entrance exam before the September 15 deadline.
In an aggressive recruitment campaign costing more than $1 million, the FDNY is using multimedia and ethnic newspapers to announce to the public the January 2012 exam.
Additional recruitment efforts will take place each week where recruiters will have wireless laptops to assist all those who are interested in signing up.
The FDNY will also use social media outlets such as Facebook and Twitter to interact with potential recruits and to keep them posted about events, the exam process and to answer any questions they may have about the test.
Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano a 41-year veteran of the FDNY reiterates the importance of fire fighters and the pivotal role they play in the community.
“We offer a very attractive salary and benefits package that – combined with a great work schedule and the pride that comes from serving others – offers one of the most exciting and rewarding careers available anywhere.”
After undergoing the tedious process of becoming a New York City firefighter the benefits that they enjoy are a starting salary of about $40,000 that reaches nearly $100,000 after five years, premier health and medical benefits, a flexible work schedule with up to four weeks of vacation annually, generous pension benefits and most importantly career growth opportunities.
With the aforementioned benefits and the most recent December 2008 class of probationary firefighters being the most diverse in history to join the FDNY, the department said it best by tweeting “There’s no better job in the world.”
