The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is rerouting bus riders in Jackson Heights.
Beginning on September 4, southbound Q47 and Q49 MTA buses will run on 75th Street from 35th Avenue when approaching the 74th Street Bus Terminal. The route previously operated on 73rd Street. The change is being made to adapt to the closure of 37th Road between 73rd and 74th Streets. A direct transfer to the E, F, M, R and No;. 7 subway lines will be preserved.
Q45 and Q47 bus paths will also be combined into one route effective September 4. All stops for both buses, except for those on 73rd Street, will continue to be made by the Q47. The buses connect LaGuardia Airport’s Marine Air Terminal and northern Jackson Heights with Middle Village and the Atlas Park Mall in Glendale.
Over the past two and a half years, the Department of Transportation (DOT) partnered with the MTA while conducting the Jackson Heights Neighborhood Transportation Study. The analysis, which examined pedestrian and vehicular safety, traffic congestion, parking and transit movement in the area, was undertaken with the objective of improving traffic mobility. Based on the study’s results, the DOT implemented several street closures and directional changes.
The alterations to the Q45, Q47 and Q49 are in accordance with the DOT’s changes.
