JAMAICA — An 18-year-old from Jamaica and a 17-year-old from Brooklyn, were charged with attempted robbery and resisting arrest after they allegedly tried to swipe a cell phone from a man walking on a Jamaica street, a spokeswoman for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.
Andrew Bishop, of 1237 Flatbush Ave. in Brooklyn, and Kalvin Thwaites, of 170-16 104th Ave. in Jamaica, allegedly approached the man in front of 90-22 170th St. between 8:35 p.m. and 8:40 p.m. Oct. 20 when Bishop told him, “Don’t move, give up your phone,” according to the criminal complaint.
Bishop, Thwaites and a third suspect who has not been caught then allegedly thrust their hands into the man’s pocket and tried to steal his phone, the complaint said.
Bishop and Thwaites refused to put their hands behind their backs when they were handcuffed, according to the complaint.
The teens were arraigned Oct. 22 before Queens Criminal Court Judge Lenora Gerald, who set bail at $35,000 apiece, the spokeswoman said.
Bishop and Thwaites are next expected to appear in court Friday, the spokeswoman said.
