Spring Aheadwith a Fun Day at Queens Botanical Garden

Photography, Poets & Other Programs

Queens Botanical Garden will be a “one-stop-shopping” venue for local residents looking for fun weekend activities on Saturday, Mar. 10.

At 1 p.m., the garden will offer the first in a series of nature photography workshops. After a few pointers from photographers Shari Romar and H. David Stein, the group will tour the garden on the hunt for the perfect ‘pic.’

Visitors to the garden on Mar. 10 are also invited to hear selections from the Fresh Meadows Poets. The group of local poets will perform at 2 p.m. and lead a free interactive workshop for poets and other aspiring wordsmiths.

Children and families will also be at the garden this Saturday for the HSBC Children’s Garden Family Day. The free open house will begin at 2 p.m. and will be an introduction to the education programs offered by the children’s garden, complete with fun-filled children’s activities and discount offers for parents.

The day’s packed schedule is part of a larger effort by the Garden to expand its offerings to the public and maintain a consistent presence in the community.

“April through October is considered the growing and gardening season, but there are things to see and do at QBG all year round,” says Darcy Hector, director of Marketing and Development. “We hope people will come out for these early spring activities and see the garden with fresh eyes.”
