Planes searched at JFK following hijack threat

Two planes at JFK Airport were searched this afternoon following a possible terrorist threat, said multiple media reports.

Though the Port Authority could not confirm anything, recent footage from Fox 5 New York showed the two planes, reportedly an American Airlines flight from San Francisco and a Finnair plane originating from Helsinki, isolated on the runway with police, emergency and other vehicles nearby.

Around 3 p.m., Port Authority Police allegedly received an anonymous phone call claiming that “hijackers were hiding in the wheel wells of the plane and were wearing gas masks,” the New York Post reported.

Both Fox 5 and the Post said that similar hijacking threats were made to other national airports.

After the planes were investigated, they were allowed to head to the terminal around 5 p.m.
