Changing of the guard for Dem Club

SOUTH QUEENS DEMw

Stacey Amato, daughter of former assemblymember and current County Clerk Audrey Pheffer, was introduced as the new 23rd District co-leader on Thursday, September 27 at the South Queens Democratic Club meeting in Howard Beach.

Frank Gulluscio, Amato’s co-leader, along with about 50 other members welcomed her to the club, after Joann Shapiro, previous co-leader, stepped down from the position.

Amato was elected by the county and committee and sworn in last week.

“I’ve been doing this my whole life with my mother through every civic organization, club, and problem in the Rockaways, Howard Beach and Ozone Park. I really embrace it and I love it,” said Amato. “There’s a public service bug in me and I can’t stop.”

Amato is a paraprofessional in the New York City Board of Education and is also a member of the Harriet S. Truman Club in Rockaway.

“I go to and visit [the Harriet S. Truman Club] just as they do with us as we share our leadership. We opened our windows to our club just a little bit,” said Gulluscio. “I’m honored and proud to work with Stacey.”

Gulluscio, Amato and the club also discussed State Senator Joe Addabbo’s race against Councilmember Eric Ulrich. Addabbo thanked the club for its work and support.

“I won last when the opponent over spent me because all of your hard work and we will do that again this year,” said Addabbo.
