Come To M.V. & Give ‘Gift Of Life’
Residents of Middle Village and surrounding communities are asked to donate “the gift of life” at a blood drive being held by St. Margaret Church and the New York Blood Center (NYBC) this Sunday, Jan. 20, it was announced.
The drive will take place from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday at the St. Margaret Parish Center, located off the corner of Juniper Valley Road and 80th Street.
Donors of all blood types are encouraged to participate, but Deacon Mike Brainerd of St. Margaret Church indicated that those who have O-negative blood are especially needed, since that type is in very short supply.
One pint of donated blood has been known to help save the lives of up to three people through transfusions to treat diseases, injuries and ailments.
All prospective donors must be between the ages of 17 and 75 (16- year-olds may donate with parental consent on a permission form; men and women over 75 must have a doctor’s note), weigh at least 110 lbs., be in good overall health and must not have donated within the last 56 days. Donors should eat their regular meals and drink plenty of fluids before donating.
For more information or to register to donate, call the St. Margaret Church rectory at 1-718-326-1911 or the NYBC at 1-800-933-BLOOD, or visit www.nybloodcenter.org.
