Man Shot Inside Bushwick Apt.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 79-year-old man who was fatally shot inside his Bushwick apartment early on Sunday morning, Feb. 24, the apparent victim of a stray bullet, it was reported.

Police identified the victim as James Jackson of Gates Avenue, who sustained a gunshot wound to his neck.

Members of the 83rd Precinct responded to a 911 call at Jackson’s apartment on Gates Avenue between Bushwick Avenue and Broadway at around 2:24 a.m. Sunday.

According to published reports, the victim’s blind wife called for help after he would not respond to her calls.

Upon their arrival, law enforcement sources said, the officers discovered Jackson on his couch. EMS units who arrived at the scene transported the victim to Woodhull Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Despite a search of the surrounding area, no arrests were made in the case, authorities noted.

The 83rd Precinct Detective Squad is conducting an investigation, police said.
