Misao Ookawa, A 114-year-old Japanese woman born to a clothing merchant in 1898, was recognized as the world’s oldest woman by Guinness World Records on Wednesday. She turns 115 next week on March 5, 2013.

Declaring war against invasive brown tree snakes infesting the Pacific U.S. territory of Guam, wildlife officials plan this spring to bomb the island with dead baby mice stuffed with a common pain-killing medicine that is toxic to snakes “and not a lot of other animals,” said William Pitt, a wildlife biologist at the U.S. Agriculture Department’s National Wildlife Research Center in Hawaii.
