Woodside Scouts at Transit Museum

Members of Cub Scout Pack 390 in Woodside and their den mothers visited the New York City Transit Museum last Saturday, Feb. 2. Pack Committee Chair Nami Russo lead the boys as they planned their trip to the museum the night before. Due to track repairs, the scouts selected a route that involved three trains the 7 train to Queensboro Plaza, the N train to Lexington Avenue in Manhattan and finally the 4 train to Borough Hall in Brooklyn. The scouts learned how electricity is produced to power the subway system and received a guided tour of the Boerum Street station, which included subway and elevated cars dating from the late 1800s to the 1970s. After the tour the boys visited the museum’s workshop for arts and crafts and interaction with the museum’s staff. Participation in this trip will allow the boys to complete part of the travel and science portions of their individual badge of rank.
