North Shore Towers fire leaves one dead: FDNY

By Phil Corso

Fire Department officials had yet to identify what caused the fire on an upper floor at North Shore Towers that left one woman dead Monday, the FDNY said.

Authorities received word of the blaze on the 30th floor of the Coleridge Tower building, at 269-10 Grand Central Pkwy. in Little Neck, around 12:16 p.m., where they discovered the unidentified body, fire officials said.

The blaze was already extinguished by the time they had a arrived, meaning it may have burned itself out quickly, the FDNY said.

Though the victim’s identity was not yet released, officials at the scene confirmed it was a woman who lived in the building and had been burned in the fire.

The cause of the fire was still unknown and fire marshals were investigating as of press time Wednesday, officials said.

Residents inside the tower reported seeing smoke coming from outside the building at the time of the incident, but could not identify any other information. Management at North Shore Towers did not return calls seeking comment.
