A police officer shot and critically wounded a 25-year-old man who allegedly pointed a loaded gun at housing cops in Far Rockaway early Saturday, the NYPD said.
Authorities were called to 40-20 Beach Channel Dr. at about 12:30 a.m. about an assault on the third floor, police said.
Four uniformed officers, including one sergeant, from the 101st Precinct Housing Unit went into the building’s lobby, where they heard screaming coming from a stairwell, the NYPD said.
When the officers went into the stairwell, they spotted the 25-year-old allegedly holding a gun, and ordered the man to drop the weapon, according to investigators.
After the unidentified suspect fled up the staircase, he then allegedly pointed his loaded gun at the officers, and one officer shot him in the torso, police said.
The suspect was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, and two officers were also taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries, the NYPD said.
A 9mm, Highpoint model “C” was recovered at the scene, police said.
