Gunmen Take Taxi Co. for Ride

Steal Thousands From Woodside Cab Base

Rather than getting a cab, armed bandits grabbed thousands in cash from a Woodside taxi office during a stickup last Tuesday night, Feb. 25, law enforcement sources said.

According to police, the caper took place at 7 p.m. inside a taxi leasing company located at 69-20 48th Ave., between 69th and 70th streets.

Reportedly, three perpetrators described as black males wearing masks walked into the location just before it was scheduled to close and confronted five individuals.

Law enforcement sources said two crooks displayed handguns and forced a 34-year-old woman to take them to the back of the office, where they demanded cash.

Within minutes, police noted, the suspects removed $18,000 cash, four smart phones and a wallet with credit cards. After obtaining the loot, the bandits fled from the scene on foot and were last observed heading east on 48th Avenue.

Officers from the 108th Precinct responded to the scene. There were no injuries.

Various police units canvassed the surrounding area for suspects and clues, but no immediate arrests were made, authorities stated.

The case was presented to the 108th Precinct Detective Squad for further investigation, police said.

Anyone with any information regarding the robbery that could prove helpful is asked to call the 108th Precinct Detective Squad at 1- 718-784-5441; all calls will be kept confidential.
