U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Flushing), state Assemblyman Ron Kim (D-Flushing) and City Council members Margaret Chin (D-) and Peter Koo (D-Flushing) have announced that they will endorse state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman for re-election.
The group praised Schneiderman’s work over the last four years with helping families, immigrants and small business owners.
Schneiderman made a priority while in office to buckle down on fraud, including efforts to investigate individuals and companies that target vulnerable immigrant communities.
His office issued a release saying he had shut down two of the nation’s largest immigration service providers after they gave false promises of citizenship and residency to defrauded immigrants, and he secured $2 million to $3 million to provide restitution to those immigrants.
Schneiderman has made sure that all businesses, including small ones, have the same level playing field in the state by going after companies that attempt to defraud New Yorkers.
He has also helped in protecting workers from wage theft, securing felony convictions on bosses who refused to comply with prevailing wages, minimum wage and overtime laws.
Over the last three years, Schneiderman has been able to return over $16 million to more than 10,000 workers who had been cheated out of pay by their employers, his office said.
