Scores of residents young and old joined the legal fight against a proposed homeless shelter in Glendale during a fundraiser last Friday night, Oct. 24, at Yerman’s Pub in Glendale. The event benefitted the Glendale Middle Village Coalition, a group of civic and business organizations united in opposition to a transitional housing shelter for up to 125 families that the nonprofit group Samaritan Village and the Department of Homeless Services plans to build at 78-16 Cooper Ave., a defunct factory. According to Sal Crifasi, the coalition’s co-founder who also leads the Middle Village Property Owners/Residents Association and the Middle Village Chamber of Commerce, more than $8,000 was raised at last Friday’s event, which included live music, dancing and raffles. Crifasi (at left) and other coalition members-including Glendale residents Dawn Scala, Deborah Kueber and Stacey Kruk and Glendale Civic Association President Kathy Masi-are pictured above. The coalition will hold its next public meeting at 7 p.m. next Thursday night, Nov. 6, at St. Pancras Pfeifer Hall, located at 68-20 Myrtle Ave. in Glendale. See Page 28 for more details.
